Herb Baze Announces His Candidacy for 35h Legislative District

Former Mason County Commissioner and entrepreneur Herb Baze announced his candidacy for the position of state legislator today.

“The decisions that are made, or are not made, by our Governor and our legislators affect the quality of life for our kids and our families,” said Baze.  “I’m not afraid to make the decisions that are necessary to protect and improve our quality of life here in our community.”

Herb Baze has deep roots in Mason County and the 35th Legislative District.  His great grandfather homesteaded here.  Herb was born at Mason General Hospital in 1949.  He attended school at Hood Canal Jr. High and Shelton High School.  He and his wife Cathy and his two boys Justin Baze and Travis Baze have lived on Mason Lake Road for the past twenty years.  They both play in a band called the Varmints.

Herb Baze has a broad range of professional experience in both the public and private sectors.  Herb worked for Hanford as an engineering technologist (ground water monitoring).  He owned and operated Herbenco Video Shelton for fifteen years. In 1990 he bought and restructured Black Star Custom Screen Printing which Cathy and Justin manage today  He also has built several homes under the name Black Star Developers.  He is a Realtor with the Richard Beckman Realty Group in Shelton.

He served as Commissioner of the Board of Mason County Commission for four years (2000-2004) and Chair for part of that time.  During his term of office, he helped establish the first drug court in Mason County.  He served on the Mason County Transit Advisory Board (MCTAB), and as an Advisory Board Member, Harmony Hill Retreat Center.  He is a member of the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce.

“Every day that I am in office, I will work to enhance our quality of life.  Every day I will work to make our neighborhoods safer, our education stronger for our children and create more liveable wage jobs for our families.  Every day I will work to make our community a place that our children and our grandchildren will want to live in and can be proud of,” said Baze.
