The Mason County Association of REALTORS® announced their endorsement of the re-election of Mayor John Tarrant.  They also endorsed the election of Mike Byrne, for Commissioner of Finance for

Shelton and Jay Hupp as District 3 Port of Shelton Commissioner.

Following a thorough interview process of all candidates in their respective races, REALTORS based the decisions on each of the candidates’ experience and understanding of issues important to REALTORS, homeowners and homebuyers.

“I think people would be surprised at how many local decisions affect our ability to provide adequate housing opportunities”, said Rob Drexler, President of the Association.   “Housing involves good land use decisions, sustainable infrastructure funding as well as job creation and retention.  That is why we are involved in the political process.  We support people who support housing because by supporting housing you build a strong and vibrant community”, Drexler continued.

Mayor Tarrant has proven experience and qualifications.  He understands the dynamic relationship between jobs and housing availability and affordability.  He respects citizen demand for transparency in the governmental process by initiating resources, time and energy toward public involvement, education and outreach on critical decisions.   Notable examples of these efforts were adoption of innovative critical area protection regulations based on public input.  He also supported considerable outreach to the community during recent re-zone deliberations of the Shelton Urban Growth Area.  REALTORS are especially pleased with the comprehensive approach being taken to develop additional infrastructure revenues that will help stop the continued deterioration of our streets, sewer and water systems.

REALTORS support Mike Byrne because he possesses a unique combination of knowledge and experience in both fiscal and development matters.  This understanding will help

Shelton tackle its infrastructure needs and growth pressures in a fiscally responsible manner.  He understands the importance of leveraging available funds for long term sustainable solutions to our infrastructure funding needs.  Byrne supports REALTOR efforts to encourage more choice in housing and shows he understands the role local government plays in providing more housing opportunities.

Jay Hupp is the ideal candidate for Port Commissioner based on his experience as Assistant Director of the Mason County Economic Development Council.  This experience will provide essential understanding of business needs helpful for promoting and retaining Port business tenants.  As Port Commissioner, Hupp will increase job development efforts in the County. Hupp has a broad vision for the future of the Port and understands the Port’s role in helping increase economic opportunities in the County.
